Department of History


About the Department: -

The Department of History was established in the year 1959 CE with Late Punaram Gogoi as the Founder Teacher. The department has been enriched by the relentless dedication and services of the early teachers like Late Sibaram Bora, and Late Umacharan Hazarika. In 1982 CE, the Major courses were formally introduced for the students of the department, and teachers like Shri Liaquat Ahmed, Shri Arup Kumar Borthakur, Late Dr. Ranjit Ranjan Saikia, and Late Prantanu Thakur built on the foundations laid by the founder teachers. The Semester system was introduced in 2011 CE and the CBCS courses were started from 2019 CE respectively. The current faculty strength of the department is four. The names of the faculty members are as follows:
1. Dr. Bikash Nath
Assistant Professor and Head.
Years of service: 11 years.
Area of Interest: Labour History, Nationalism, Social History.

2. Mr. Martin Youah
Assistant Professor
Years of service: 1.5 years.
Area of Interest: Film Studies & Cultural Studies.

3. Dr. Gautam Das
Assistant Professor
Years of service: 1.5 years.
Area of Interest: Gender, Social History.

4. Dr. Ambuj Thakur
Assistant Professor
Years of service: 1.5 years.
Area of Interest: Area Studies (East and Southeast Asia, Northeast India), Connected Histories.

Kareng: The Printed Magazine
The Department of History has published its departmental journal ‘Kareng’ in 2021, 2022 and 2023 respectively.
Khamzang: The Handwritten Magazine
The Department has published its first handwritten magazine Khamzang on 27/06/2022.
Kareng: The Wall Magazine
The Wall Magazine of the department has been published continuously from 2017 as part of the Inter-departmental Wall Magazine Competition instituted by C.K.B. College Teok annually.
