About the Department: -

INTRODUCTION: The international commission on education known as Delor Commission has suggested for four fundamental objectives of education and said that education system of any country has to be based on these 4 fundamental objectives. These objectives are 1. Learning to know 2. Learning to be 3.Learning to do and 4.Learning to live together. Adjusting education for realisation of these goals requires sincere pedagogical discourses and it on the other hand necessitates the need of department like education. Suggestions for establishment of department of education in India were first put forward by Sadler Commission, 1917. The chief underlying objectives behind such establishment was to encourage research in the field of teaching learning and also development of teacher efficiency. At present Department of education as a discipline of study has great significance particularly in the context of our national effort to eradicate illiteracy through several locale and national programme. All these efforts require massive manpower initiated to learning and teaching technique and the manpower need can be fulfilled by this discipline. The department of education C.K.B College, Teok was started with the beginning of the college in 1959. Introduction of major course in the department was from 1984. Objectives: The major objectives behind the establishment of the department were 1. To popularise the pedagogy among the young generation and thereby attract them to the teaching profession in a rural area like Teok which need massive manpower to expand education. 2. In the wake of shortage of teacher training institutes, need is felt to compensate the dearth of such institutes and also to provide professional guidance to the teachers working in the schools. 3.To make the teacher community of different discipline and all that are directly or indirectly related with the process of education conscious about psychological realities, theories having great bearing in education process and develop teaching efficiency. Course Offered: The department offers under graduate courses in major and core. As an affiliated college of Dibrugarh University it follows a syllabus of study prepared by the University in B.A Major and B.A general. In addition to B.A course the faculty of the department also teach the students of Higher Secondary and in this regard the syllabus is provided by Assam Higher Secondary Education Council. The Department of Education was started in the year 1968 with the objective of development of insight pertaining to teaching -learning process, pedagogy and issues within the purview of educational management. Initially the department run non-major courses in U.G level under Dibrugarh University. Provisions for major courses started from the year 1984. Mrs. Manoka Devi , the founder teacher of the department rendered her service from 1968 to 1971 and she was succeeded by Mr. Aroti Sarma (Service period from 1971 to 2010),Amiya Goswami(service period 1974 - 1976) and Karabi Dutta (service period 1976-2014).In the year Mrs. Mamoni Gogoi joined the department as the faculty and started major courses. Mrs. Deepanjali Goswami joined the department as the faculty in the year 1985 and successfully retired in 2021. At present there are four teachers in the department.
