Under the guidelines of Assam State AIDS Control Society, Khanapara, Guwahati, Chandra
Kamal Bezbaruah College, Teok conducted an “Intensified IEC Campaign”. IEC stands for
Information, Education and Communication. The Campaign is against STI/HIV and AIDS. It
aims to inform, educate and communicate (IEC) with the general public about the stigma and
the shame that has been associated with AIDS. The Red Ribbon Club, Chandra Kamal
Bezbaruah College, Teok in association with Students’ Union, Chandra Kamal Bezbaruah
College, Teok conducted many events to educate and inform the students regarding HIV/STI
and AIDS. This extensive campaign was a two-day program.
DAY - I
The Red Ribbon Club in association with the Students’ Union organised an Awareness Rally
to raise an awareness about HIV/STI and AIDS on 29 th August 2024. The rally started from
the college and proceeded to the Jogduar market area. Around 100 students participated in the
rally.
After the awareness rally, the students assembled in front of the college office premises for
the Human Chain Formation. Around 100 students assembled to form a human chain to
symbolize unity and solidarity in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
The third event of the day was an Awareness Program on AIDS, STIs (Sexually Transmitted
Infections), and HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) on 29 th August 2024 in Punaram
Gogoi Memorial Hall. The program was conducted to address the growing need for
comprehensive education on these critical public health issues. The program aimed to
increase awareness, promote safe practices, and reduce the stigma associated with these
infections. Mrs. Yasmin Khan, Rector, C.K.B College graced the occasion. She delivered the
welcome address and emphasized on information, education and communication of
AIDS/HIV among students.
Dr. Bhaktimoi Bhattacharjya, AIDS officer, Jorhat was the resource person of the program.
Dr. Bhattacharjya gave an insightful lecture on causes and prevention of AIDS/HIV. He
emphasized on “Know Your Status” which is a public health campaign, it encourages
individuals to get tested for HIV to be aware of their HIV status. There was lively interaction
between the resource person and the students. A total number of 65 students took active
participation in the program. Dr. Ambuj Thakur, Assistant Professor, Department of History,
delivered the vote of thanks.

DAY – II
On 30 th August 2024, the Red Ribbon Club in association with the Students’ Union organised
a painting competition in Room no. 08 in the college premises. The event aimed to raise
awareness about HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and AIDS through the medium
of art. By engaging students in a creative activity, the event sought to foster a deeper
understanding and empathy towards individuals affected by HIV and AIDS. The competition
saw enthusiastic participation from over 25 students across various disciplines. Each
participant was provided with art supplies and given an hour to create their artwork based on
the theme.
Dr. Binoybrot Rajkhowa, Associate Professor, Department of Economics and Dr. Dipak
Kumar Sarma, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science evaluated the paintings.
The criteria for judging included creativity, relevance to the theme, artistic skill, and the
message conveyed through the artwork.
The top three paintings were awarded prizes, and their artworks depicted a vibrant and
hopeful scene of a community coming together to support individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
The first prize went to Rohit Sunar, a 5 th semester student of Political Science department.
The second prize was awarded to Abhinab Saikia, a 5 th semester student of English
department. The third prize to Nibir Narah, a 1 st semester student of Assamese department.
The painting competition was a resounding success, achieving its goal of raising awareness
about HIV, STIs, and AIDS. It provided a platform for students to express their creativity
while contributing to a vital cause. The event underscored the importance of education and
community support in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
