Preface

Family is the fundamental unit of society, shaping social structures, cultural traditions, and interpersonal relationships. Among indigenous communities, the family system plays a vital role in maintaining social cohesion, transmitting traditions, and preserving identity. This project report, titled "Family among the Tingya Naga Village of Hanchara in Sivasagar District of Assam," explores the unique familial structures, customs, and socio-cultural dynamics of the Naga community residing in this region.

The study seeks to understand the composition of Naga families, their kinship patterns, marriage practices, inheritance systems, and the influence of modernization on traditional family structures. The research is based on a combination of field visits, interviews with community members, and an analysis of existing literature on Naga society. Special attention has been given to how the Tingya Naga people balance their traditional values with contemporary societal changes.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the community members of Tingya Naga Village, whose insights and cooperation have been invaluable in compiling this study. I also express my sincere appreciation to my academic mentors, peers, and all those who have contributed to this research. Without their guidance and support, this project would not have been possible.

I hope this report provides a comprehensive understanding of the family system among the Nagas of Hanchara and serves as a valuable reference for further sociological and anthropological research.
