Introduction:

On 14th August , 2024 , the Department of Sociology, CKB College, Teok, organized an educational visit to the Central Library for the students of BA 1st Semester, Major. The visit aimed to familiarize the students with the library's resources and services, enhance their research skills, and encourage the habit of regular library use.

Objectives of the Visit:

  1. To introduce students to the layout and functioning of the Central Library.
  2. To educate students on the effective use of library resources, including books, journals, and digital databases.
  3. To encourage students to utilize the library for academic research and self-study.
  4. To provide students with an opportunity to understand the importance of libraries in academic life.

Details of the Visit:

The visit commenced at 2:15 pm  with a brief orientation session conducted by Mayashree Buragohain , Assi8stant Professor Department of Sociology, who provided an overview of the library's facilities and resources. The students were then guided through the various sections of the library, including:

  • Reference Section: The students were shown how to access and use reference books and encyclopedias.
  • Periodicals Section: They were introduced to the collection of journals, magazines, and newspapers available in the library.
  • Digital Resource Section: The students were familiarized with the library's digital databases and online resources, which are essential for academic research.
  • Circulation Section: The process of borrowing and returning books was explained to the students.

Student Participation and Engagement:

The students actively participated in the visit, asking questions and engaging in discussions about the various resources available. They expressed particular interest in the digital resources and were eager to learn how to access academic journals online.

Monitoring and Feedback:

Throughout the visit, the students were closely monitored to ensure their active participation and adherence to the rules and decorum of the library. Feedback was collected from the students at the end of the visit, and it was overwhelmingly positive. Many students expressed that the visit had been highly informative and had motivated them to make better use of the library facilities.

Conclusion:

The visit to the Central Library was a successful and enriching experience for the students of BA 1st Semester, Major, and Department of Sociology. It provided them with valuable insights into the importance of libraries in their academic journey and equipped them with the necessary skills to utilize the library's resources effectively. The Department of Sociology plans to organize similar visits in the future to further enhance the students' academic experience.
