The department of history organized a special talk on the subject entitled ‘Srimanta Sankardeva: A Study’ and which was delivered by Dr.Chitra Duarah, associate professor of the Department of Commerce(Subject: Assamese) of the C.K.B College ,Teok. The head of the department ,Dr.Bikash Nath introduced the resource person to the students and he spoke candidly how in a short notice ,the resource person Dr.Duarah ,accepted the invitation from the department and agreed to speak on the occasion. Prof.Duarah very beautifully explained the greatness of the personality of Srimanta Sankaradeva and how he singlehandedly pioneered the vaishnavite movement with the help of the band of followers like Madhavadeva, Damodardeva, Ananta Kandali etc. in medieval Assam and there was not only a spurt of literary creations but it initiated a social revolutionary situation . It is said that he lived for 120 years due to his incredible and immutable physical and mental adroitness . He is widely credited with building on past cultural relics and devising new forms of music (Borgeet), theatrical performance (Ankia Naat, Bhaona), dance (Sattriya), literary language (Brajavali). The Bhagavatic religious movement he started , Ekasarana Dharma and also called Neo Vaishanavite movement , influenced two medieval kingdoms –Koch and the Ahom kingdoms – and the assembly of devotees he initiated evolved over time into monastic centers called Sattras , which continue to be important socio-religious institutions in Assam and to a lesser extent in North Bengal.

Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankardeva had built up a great Assamese society based upon the unique cultural linkage with the Vedic philosophy and at the same time gave a specific socio-cultural orientation to the medieval Assamese society as well as to the present .
