Popular Talk on ‘Writing about Global
Non-Human Past: A Note from India’s North-east’ by Dr. Bikram Borah,
Department of History, Bahona College, Jorhat The programme had been inaugurated by the honorable Rector of our College, Associate Professor Sunil Kumar Bhattacharya and he praised the efforts of the department of history for holding such talks as a great academic exercise . He said very important words regarding the conrributions of the Jnanapith winner author Dr.Birendra Kumar Bhattacharya's literary contributions. Dr.Tanmoyee Rani Neog completed her higher education from the Jawaharlal Nehru University ,New Delhi from where she completed the Post Graduation to the Doctoral research . She is now the assistant professor in the department of history , J.B.College, Jorhat (autonomous) . Dr.Neog very beautifully discussed the novel 'Pratipod' as the symbolic departure from the gendered hierarchy of the social formation . No doubt, the novel's story was based upon the Digboi Oil Strike of 1939 where three labourers hasd been shot dead by the colonial police force .The characters of the novel demonstrated the secular spirit of the struggling workers and above all the attempt made by some of the workers to rise above the hierarchies in terms of caste and gender. The visit of the nationalist leaders with left leaning ideas enthused the workers to form a trade union and increasing activities later did led to the death of those workers but several features of the industrial town reflected the changing structure of the society . | ||
