A Talk on ‘Freedom Struggle in Assam’ Organised by Department of History, C.K.B. College, Teok Under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

The talk on the specific topic 'Freedom Struggle in Assam' had been inaugurated by the IQAC Coordinator Dr.Binoy Brot Rajkhowa with his beautiful words about the immense contributions and sacrifices made by the known and unknown freedom fighters who at the point of immense sacrifices made it possible for the Freedom Movement to achieve the reality of Swaraj against the colonial British rule . The resource person for the talk was Dr.Bikash Nath , assistant professor ,department of history ,C.K.B College,Teok who have already published one important text on 'Tea Plantation Workers of Assam and the Indian National Movement ,1921-1947 ' published by the Primus Books , New Delhi-2016.The idea of freedom since the second decade of the 20th century India had been largely transformed through the arrival of Gandhiji and his young and charismatic lieutenants like Ballabhbhai Patel , Subash Chandra Bose, Dr.Rajendra Prasad and Jawaharlal Nehru. The impacts of the national movement had been felt also in the case of Assam when the erstwhile Assam Association lost its political prominence and instead of that due to the untiring zeal and efforts of the leaders like Chandrnath Sarma ,Omeo Kumar Das ,Tarun Ram Phukan , Nabin Chandra Bordoloi ,Gopinath Bordoloi the Provincial Congress Committee was established during the early 1920s and the visit of Gandhiji in 1921 gave a new momentum to the whole discourse of nationalism in Assam. The non cooperation movmement the galvanized the latent dissatisfactions of the poor peasantry and the middle class against the ultimate failure of the colonial regime to give justice in terms of equality and rights to the people of the country .The tea plantation workers tried to come out openly against the atrocities of the tea plantation authority and they had begun to consider Gandhiji as the incarnation of the God .
