A Scholarly Lecture ‘Higher Education & the Marginalized Tea Community in Assam with special reference to Golaghat & Jorhat districts’ was organised by the Department of History, C.K.B. College, Teok on 21/02/2021. The Resource Person of the same lecture was Dr. Deepanjali Goswami, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Education, C.K.B. College, Teok. Th The tea plantation workers have been one of the most backward communities of Assam in terms of education and other amenities of welfare. Before the independence ,most of the tea garden were controlled by the British capitalists controlled managing agency houses which virtually blocked any chance of spreading the avenues of modernity among such poor people who had been recruited under extreme inhuman conditions . The level of higher education among the Golaghta and Jorhat districts tea workers has been abysmally low and a mere number of graduates have been able to come out of the higher education institutes . The drop out rate due to poor economic background has brought an untimely end to their journey of education . Although they are interested in continuing their studies but the real problems in terms of their patterns of living has failed to give the hope of joining more strongly in the academic experiences . | ||
