A Talk on 'The Application of Science and Technology in the Study of History' was organised by the Department of History, C.K.B. College, Teok on the month of April 2018. The speaker of this talk was Dr. Raktim Ranjan Saikia who is a faculty member of the Department of Geology, J.B. College, Jorhat. He beautifully brought out the subject and enlightened the students of the department with many unknown facts.

The programme had been inaugurated by the honorable Principal of the College ,Dr.Bijoy Krishna Pachani and in his inaugural speech he has given emphasis on the changing structure of studying history and particularly the changes in use of technology and production of various items of culture could play a significant role in formation of the society and economy .For example , the use of iron in that context was significant enough where it gave rise to urbanization and agricultural production in a huge scale that helped eventually in development of the process of state formation as the empire building in the context of the Northern India in the First Milennium BC onwards .Dr. Raktim Ranjan Saikia is a faculty member of the department of Geology, J.B.College,Jorhat(autonomus) and although he has been a trained geologist in the field of research but he has contributed voluminously to the study of culture and history of Assam. Dr.Saikia in his speech spoke about the recent developments in studying the subject of history and archaeology or the pre-history of a specific society with improved techniques of research that has helped in knowing more scientifically and accurately the distinctive features of the evolution of a specific culture in a specific stage of history .Of course , the study of the geographical changes and the geological tectonic evolution and how it could shape the culture and identity of a specific area must have also to be studied in a systematic manner to make the study of history more scientific .
