On November 4, 2019, the department of English C.K.B. College, Teok organizes a talk on “Classical Mythology in English Literature”. To deliver a lecture on the subject, Dr. Gitartha Goswami, assistant professor in the English department at Jorhat College, was invited. In his lecture, Dr. Goswami says that Greek mythology has a significant impact on English literature. He talks on the impact of Greek mythology on English culture, including an analysis of how it affected the English language and English literature. Greek mythology, which is heavily incorporated into English terminology and idioms, is intrinsically related to English literature. Then he presents instances of English poets, playwrights, and writers who have incorporated allusions to Greek mythology and other myths into their works. In this context, he essentially provides examples from William Shakespeare’s literary works. Moreover, he notes the influence of Indian mythology on Srimanta Sankardeva’s works. Dr. Goswami says that English language learners should have knowledge of Greek mythology because it has such a significant impact on English literature and culture. During the interactive session, Dr. Goswami responds to the questions raised by the students.
