Dr. Dipak Kumar Sarma, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, C.K.B. College,
Teok, was invited to speak at a special class on “Colonialism, Nationalism, and the Partition of
India” on May 23, 2022, by the English department of the college. The purpose of the
programme was to familiarise students with topics relevant to partition literature. Dr. Sarma
provides a thorough explanation of the history of India’s Partition and its effects. In his talk, he
discusses the complex dynamics of India’s Partition, placing particular attention on colonial,
political, and nationalistic positions. He also highlights the suffering of the common people
during Partition and demonstrates how the oppression, horrors, and madness of that age are
remembered and revisited in Partition literature from various perspectives.
The discussion was engaging and stimulating as Dr. Sarma provides clear explanations to help
students immediately grasp the political and nationalistic issues associated with the Partition of
