Summary: -
On November 16, 2021, Dr. Bikash Nath, Assistant Professor, Department of History, C.K.B.
College, Teok, was invited to speak at a special class on “The forms of ‘Homeyness as
Abstraction: The Diaspora in Reflection” organized by the English department of the college. In
his presentation, Dr. Nath illustrates how the concept of “home” can function as a metaphor and
a metonomy in diaspora imagination, and how it can symbolise finding one’s roots and solace.
Moreover, he discusses how diaspora literature responds to the pains of disenfranchised people
who experience a crisis of identity in their adopted country due to loss of their ancestral
homeland.
The class was thought-provoking since Dr. Nath offered theoretical explanations of “home” in
the context of the diaspora studies, addressing issues of identity and belongingness of the
uprooted people. He also answers queries from the students throughout the interactive session.
