On 16-8-2023, the Department of English at CKB College, Teok, organized a special interdepartmental teaching session for students majoring in English. The session aimed to provide a multidisciplinary perspective by inviting Dr. Bikash Nath, Assistant Professor from the Department of History, to deliver a lecture on “Joseph Conrad and the Scene of Writing: A Historical Reflection.”

The event was a part of the college’s ongoing efforts to enrich the academic experience of its students by introducing them to varied perspectives and interdisciplinary approaches. The lecture by Dr. Nath focused on the historical context of Joseph Conrad’s writing, exploring the intricate relationship between historical events and literary production.

By examining Heart of Darkness Dr. Nath illustrated how Conrad’s novels reflect the complexities of imperialism, identity, and morality. He emphasized the importance of understanding the historical backdrop to fully grasp the depth of Conrad's critique of European colonialism and the moral ambiguities faced by his characters.
