The Department of English, C.K.B. College, Teok, in association with the “Language Barrier Diminishing Committee,” organized a Student Workshop on “Functional English” from 18th to 23rd March 2024. The workshop aimed to enhance the functional English skills of students, preparing them to meet the demands of effective communication in a globalized world.

The workshop covers topics such as:

 1. Evolving dynamics of communication in the contemporary world

2. Various aspects of communication, including verbal and non-verbal communication, cross-cultural communication and the role of digital platforms in shaping modern communication

3. Essential skills required to design and deliver effective presentations

4. Key elements of a good presentation, including planning, content organization, visual aids and delivery techniques

5. Key elements of a successful conversation, including active listening, clear articulation, appropriate body language and the ability to engage in meaningful dialogue

6. Various types of common errors, including grammatical mistakes, incorrect usage of vocabulary and errors in sentence structure

7. Various forms of writing, including academic, creative and business writing

8. Cinema as an effective tool for learning and improving English

9. Watching films as a method to learn new words, idiomatic expressions and conversational styles
