The Health and Sanitation cell and the Red Ribbon Club organised a health awareness program on “HPV Vaccination and Cervical Cancer” on 23rd February 2024 in collaboration with the Health and Sanitation Cell and Students’ Service Centre (SSC). Dr Sanjiboni Das, a final year student of  Gujarat University at Dr. M. K. Shah Medical College and Research Centre, Ahmedabad was the resource person of the program. The Chairpersons of Red Ribbon Club and the Health and Sanitation Cell, Mr. Pronob Saikia and Mrs. Ritanjali Saikia respectively, graced the program. Other members of the club and cell were also present in the meeting. Students from all the semesters and departments attended the health awareness program


Dr. Das spoke at length about the Cervical cancer, which is a major public health concern globally, particularly affecting women in developing regions. She said that the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a key etiological factor in the development of cervical cancer. She pinpointed the importance of HPV vaccination which helps to protect against certain types of HPV that can cause cancer and other health problems mainly in girls and women like genital warts. Vaccination against HPV represents a significant advance in cancer prevention, offering a potential to reduce the incidence of cervical cancer substantially. 


After the talk on Cervical Cancer and HPV Vaccination, there was an interactive session between the students and the resource person. Students expressed their doubts and queries. Around 58 students attended the program.
